SAVE THE DATE! 2nd 5G.NRWeek takes place in September.

From September 6th to 10th, Competence Center 5G.NRW will hold daily 5G sessions with various topics. In addition, North Rhine-Westphalian test and demomstration centers will be presented live! The highlight is our conference about 5G and security on September 6th. We are looking forward to your visit!

Information and communications technology in North Rhine-Westphalia

NRW.Global Business GmbH, in cooperation with the Competence Center 5G.NRW, has compiled the most important facts and data on the information and communications industry in North Rhine-Westphalia. The publication provides an overview of the industry’s key figures, shows the corporate and research landscape and analyzes the ICT sector’s foreign trade balance.

About us – 5G innovation boost for North Rhine-Westphalia

The Competence Center 5G.NRW – CC5G.NRW (short: 5G.NRW) contributes to North Rhine-Westphalia becoming the lead market for 5G: It reduces technical entry barriers for companies, develops the economic potential for vertical markets – such as automotive and mobility, energy, food and agriculture, smart cities, healthcare and production and many more – and accelerates the diffusion of innovation.

The Competence Center 5G.NRW is supported by four strong partners: Under the consortium leadership of SIKoM+ at University of Wuppertal, the University of Duisburg-Essen, the Technical University of Dortmund and FIR at RWTH Aachen are involved. The powerful consortium accompanies the introduction of the 5G technology, examines strengths and weaknesses in practice and derives realistic recommendations for use. The development and optimization of the systems will also be promoted.

The Consortium

University of Wuppertal
The University of Wuppertal is responsible for the development and expansion of the sustainable 5G innovation network, which enables feasible cooperative relationships between the telecommunications, information and user industries. The Wuppertal scientists analyze current 5G development lines and transferability potentials, support the development of ideas and accompany application-oriented innovation projects, their potentials and already look at the next but one mobile radio standard 6G. As the control center of the competence center, they are also the right contacts for all transfer questions.
University of Duisburg-Essen
The team of the University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE) researches methods and procedures for the development and operation of telecommunication-based applications. A particular focus is on the question of meeting requirements at the interface of classical non-qualitative requirements and requirements for telecommunications services. The UDE application reference in a multitude of industries (insurance, health, waste management, trade) contributes to the investigation of the potentials of 5G with regard to business model innovations.
The Technical University of Dortmund
The Technical University of Dortmund will take over the development and operation of a flexible 5G experimental platform, which will uniquely enable the implementation of innovative 5G demonstrators in companies „on site“. In addition to the high bandwidths, the focus is on fulfilling quality guarantees for highly reliable and highly scalable communication using 5G network slicing. The team of Dortmund scientists is investigating the use of the currently auctioned 5G frequencies and will also test the mobile Gigabit transmission in the new 5G frequency range to be developed at 26 GHz with innovative, dynamically tracking antennas.
FIR e.V. at RWTH University
The scientists of the FIR e. V. at RWTH University focus on the development of possible opportunities for digitization. In the specially built 5G model factory, a platform concept for 5G basic technologies is developed and tested in practice using a systemically agile development approach – the management of information flows is also taken into account. Here companies are shown which use cases can only be implemented with 5G and what SMEs in particular have to consider.
